For us, it’s the experiences, the travel, the connections, and the iconic fashion of weddings that we love. This blog is our inside edit of all those things and more.

deep breathes.

well, i am officially knee-deep in wedding season. which means a few things…

my house is a wreck, my office has exploded, for every email i answer i get 4 more in the inbox, regular all-nighters, waking up in the middle of the night because i’m afraid i forgot to do something, lists with 50+ things on them, shorter workouts, longer workdays, and i wish i was kidding but everytime i fall asleep i end up editing client’s pictures in my head- SO weird.

but, at the end of the day i can’t even complain. because really, i would rather be this busy doing something i love than not busy doing work i hate. i am just reminding myself to breathe. in and out. dishes will have to wait. if 3 workouts a week is all i can handle that is ok. i force myself to take days off because it only makes me a better photographer to my brides to have these small but amazing breaks to myself. i am reminded of the promise i made to myself last year to do my best to keep balanced during this whirlwind we call wedding season- and though it’s 11am and i am still in pajamas with no shower and i forgot to eat breakfast again, i remind myself that i am improving. last year, everything in my personal life got left in the shuffle and when november came i was left alone and shaking in a corner. (haha ok perhaps a little dramatic but you get the idea) but really- i wasn’t taking breaks, i wasn’t spending time with my husband, family or friends, i stopped working out, i ate more fast food, my husband practically became more of a personal assistant than a husband just to help out, and i forgot to just take a step back and BREATHE. in the end, there is always room for more improvement, and i still have many friends who i am long overdue for some much needed quality time…but all in all i’ll take it!

i actually went back in my blog to last wedding season when i wrote about this- it’s hard to see what has changed when you are in the midst of it but reading this kinda made me smile :)

“for 2011, my focus will be on finding balance between work and home, both mentally + physically (i still refuse to stop celebrating the joys of junk food), take my brand further in terms of the website, blog and marketing, continue to get the back end of my business more organized, be better at thank you notes, get my work recognized whether it be in the form of being featured on a blog or magazine, continue to eat as organically as possible, finish redocorating our house, take another trip (or 2?) out of the country, get my workflow to be more effficient, learn how to say “no”, spend more time with my friend + family’s babies, more time with mom/dad/brother, convince chris to get a down comforter, and all around have a kick ass 2011 year :) ”

reading that makes me feel better. so far, not too bad!

so- i must go now because i am crunching down on my to do list today and i’m already over on the alloted time i gave myself to blog this morning- ack! the good  news is by this time next week i will be all “toes in the sand with a beer in my hand” with my husband- motivation!

deep breathes. in and out. in and out.
