Caroline and Larry’s wedding at Goodstone Inn with Simply Chic Events was a stunning reflection on the couple’s unique style. They were heavily influenced by their love of Bunny Mellon – renowned horticulturist, hostess, and creator of the White House Rose Garden. Bunny Mellon had a massive impact on the event scene of the Kennedy era, and Caroline and Larry worked hard to emulate that in their celebration. Their wedding felt fresh, classic, and elegant, and was reminiscent of an intimate garden party with family and friends. It was an absolute delight to photograph Caroline and Larry on their special day and I’m so glad I get to share it with you all!
Destination Wedding at Goodstone Inn
The Goodstone Inn is a gorgeous historic venue set on a 265-acre estate in Middleburg, Virginia. The farm on the property grows produce for their farm-to-table dining, and they maintain stunning ornamental gardens throughout the property. Although Caroline and Larry live in New York, they chose to hold their wedding at Goodstone Inn in Middleburg, several hours from home. Middleburg holds a special place in their heart, as it was Caroline’s childhood hometown and also the home of Bunny Mellon and her private gardens now known as Oak Spring Farm. The couple also incorporated Middleburg into their paper suite designed by Bethesda Fine Stationery with a custom monogram featuring the Middleburg fox holding a champagne coupe.
One of the most notable details of this stunning venue is the courtyard surrounded on three sides by a gorgeous ivy wall that served as Caroline and Larry’s ceremony backdrop. With the help of White Magnolia, it was turned into a spectacular wall of white roses that perfectly encapsulated the style of Bunny Mellon’s gardens. Even the placards were a nod to Mrs. Mellon’s gardens – adorable mini boxwoods reminiscent of the french-inspired landscaping she was known for.
